Cycling Trip To Copenhagen

Cycling is one of the greenest ways to travel around a new destination. One of the best and most beautiful cycling cities in the world is Copenhagen, Denmark.

Wander the streets of Copenhagen and you’ll soon see the bicycle culture is alive and kicking in this Scandinavian country.  No wonder, in 2008, this European city was named the world’s first Bike City by the International Cycling Union (UCI).  In May, the country even launched its Cycling Embassy of Denmark to promote bicycling internationally.

For eco-conscious travelers to Copenhagen and Denmark, renting bicycles has never been easier with many rental shops.  If you want to explore the country by bicycle, Denmark offers a 4,000-km, national cycle route network with 11 routes.

Copenhagen has become known with cyclists for its famous Free City Bikes program.  Easy to access, travelers can borrow a Free City Bike for a returnable 20 DKK deposit from the city centre’s 110 bike racks.  From mid-April to November, they are available for cycling only in the free city bike zone in central Copenhagen.

For other eco-travel ideas, the city’s official tourism site VisitCopenhagen.com features an informative Green Copenhagen section.

In 2009, green fever is sweeping the city which has recently been called “Hopenhagen”.  The reason is Copenhagen will host the much-anticipated United Nations Climate Change Conference from December 7-18, 2009.

In addition to its greenness, Copenhagen is home to stunning hotels, cafés, restaurants, spas, shops, museums and more. Talk to a Tripology Travel Specialist about planning an unforgettable trip to Denmark.
