Ecuador Honeymoon Vacation

Ecuador is the second smallest country in South America and the smallest country in all of the Andean highlands. Don’t let its size fool you. This seemingly small country is jam packed with enough excursions to satisfy even the most adventurous newlyweds.

On an Ecuador honeymoon vacation, you can swim with hammerhead sharks, trek up volcanoes, go humpback whale watching and even take a canoe tour along the Amazon River with an Indian chief as your guide. A trip the Galapagos Islands, a vacation in and of itself, would also be a great excursion to include in your Ecuador honeymoon vacation.

Be sure to take your camera when visiting Mitad del Mundo, where you can literally have one foot planted firmly in the northern hemisphere and one foot planted firmly in the southern hemisphere.  Pictures taken of you and your loved one straddling the equator would make a lovely addition to your Ecuador honeymoon vacation photo album. Don’t forget to get a spa treatment in the village of Vilcabamba and make sure you visit Colonial Quito, the first city to be declared an UNESCO National Heritage Site.

Check with your doctor before embarking on an Ecuador honeymoon vacation to see which vaccines he or she recommends. Always drink bottled water, pay for everything in U.S. dollars, the official currency of Ecuador, and avoid using credit cards.  Though they are widely accepted, merchants will add 5-10% onto the bill. Spanish is the most commonly spoken language in Ecuador, but English is spoken at most tourist sites. Mid-June through early September and late December through early January are high season and the best times of year to book your Ecuador honeymoon vacation.
