Kefi - New York

The food was really great at this trendy neighborhood spot owned by star chef Michael Psalakis.

Started with some Greek beers (Mythos) and ouzo sours to go along our appetizers: spreads platter with warm, tasty pita bread, home-made Cypriot sausages and grilled octopus over bean salad.  The octopus was grilled perfectly, and the bean salad was well-dressed - I highly recommend this dish.

The entrees we selected were lamb shank and the sheep's milk dumplings and sausage with pine nuts. The lamb was extremely tender and flavorful and the orzo it was placed on was firm but not undercooked. The dumplings were out-of-this-world with flavor and the correct firmness.  Pine nuts resulted in an enjoyable amount of texture to an otherwise creamy dish.

Tables for two are quite small, so we opted for dinner at the bar.  This decision was a great idea as the bartender was entertaining and we had a considerable amount of space.  The bartender recommended a wonderful medium-bodied red wine, which was great with the lamb.
