Destination Wedding Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico City is not like the Mexico of glossy honeymoon brochures. The city is hip, undeniably beautiful, and full of welcoming locals, which makes it a perfect destination wedding getaway. A blend of colonial Spanish and indigenous architecture and culture, there is plenty to keep your whole wedding party busy on your upcoming vacation.

The Cento Historico is home to many of the cities attractions. Stop by the Zócalo, the largest square in Latin America (and third largest in the world), or stroll through the artist district of Coyacán (home to Frida Kahlo). See El Angel monument on Reforma Ave, the Aztec Xochimilco canals and floating gardens, and Basilica de Guadalupe.

No trip to Mexico City is complete without a day in the massive Chapultepec (grasshopper hill) Park. Make a picnic lunch, then walk through the greens of a castle, sit by lakes, even stop by the zoo or amusement park. The city’s wealthiest district, Lomas de Chapultepec, borders the park and is full of gated mansions. Polanco, another wealthy neighborhood, is home to fine dining and posh nightclubs.

Knowing Spanish is a plus in Mexico City. In the touristy and affluent areas most locals speak at least some English, but speaking a bit of the native tongue never hurt, especially when trying to navigate your way around this massive metropolis. Peak season is from November-April, during the dry season. Whether you choose to stay in a boutique hotel, bed and breakfast, or traditional resort, Mexico City has everything you are looking for on your upcoming destination wedding.
