Italy - a brief overview for 2 weeks

Italy  is an enchanting destination for all.  There is so much to enjoy it's hard to narrow down the options. This is an idea taken from a tour arranged for a couple celebrating an anniversary.

Fly into Rome - have a private tour of the Vatican to avoid wasting a day standing in line to join with large groups all massed around the same site.  Spend a half day touring by bus Rome learning history (there are several differently themed  tours) - and then taking your own time to go back and explore your favorite sites - all the while enjoying a gelato.... perhaps pistachio? or chocolate?

Pick up a rental car and drive to the Tuscan area and stay either in a hotel or at a villa and drive to to other small towns to sample wines - eat fantastic  pizzas  - (each area has it's own special pizza) and stop in Castellina and sample ice cream from what the shop  claims is the "World's Second Best Ice Cream'.

Drive  into Florence and stay far enough away from the tourist zone that parking isn't difficult to find and not as expensive as in the tourist area!  Take a cab or the local bus into the tourist area and visit the museums - historical places - join with a walking tour.....

Leave Florence and drive along the autopista and leave the car just outside the island area of Venice.  Take a water taxi to your hotel and again walk the streets - stopping in  the piazzas for a coffee...or in St Mark's and  listen to an orchestra play while  enjoying a drink....as you watch the pigeons and the people!
