Where to go for your next cruise?

Where do we go on our next cruise?
How do you decide where to go on your next cruise?  Some people decide on that special destination where they have been wanting to go for a long time. For others, it might be because they learned about some great prices for a particular cruise, and they want to have a winter getaway.  Perhaps it is a family reunion, and the family leader chose a particular cruise and it's destinations, and you want to join the action.  Believe it or not, currently cruise lines go to around 2,000 destinations all over the world.
Here in the U.S, cruising in the Caribbean is one of the most popular places to cruise.  Since there are over 7,000 islands in the Caribbean on a one week cruise you could stop at several different islands.  You can cruise year round in the Caribbean, but hurricane season is June 10 to November 10.  Cruises during this time often are cheaper than in the winter months, but a good precaution is to take out travel insurance in case plans change.  If you want to cruise in the Caribbean there are three major areas to choose from:  Eastern Caribbean (St. Thomas, Puerto Rico), Western Caribbean (Mexico, Jamaica, Cayman Islands) and Southern Caribbean (Antigua, Aruba).  Many cruises leave out of Florida ports including Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.  Carnival Cruise Lines offers many ports you can drive to board your cruise.  For the Southern Caribbean you might choose to fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico where you will board your cruise.
European and Mediterranean cruising has become much more popular in recent years.  With the rising costs of traveling in Europe purchasing a cruise in U.S. dollars is a good value for Americans wanting to go to Europe.  Plus the major costs of your food and lodging are all paid in advance.  Ports include Athens, Barcelona, Oslo, Stockholm, St. Petersburg and Venice.  Travelers like the comfort of English spoken on board as they travel to these foreign lands, and all purchases on board frequently are in U.S. dollars.
The third most popular destination for American travelers is to Alaska during the summer months.  When in Alaska most like to do the Inside Passage where they can visit remote ports like Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan.  Several of the cruise lines offer offer cruise tour packages where you can spend several days visiting the interior of Alaska where you can have opportunities to travel via a glass domed rail car to the wilderness or see wildlife in Denali National Park.
