Transylvanian nightlife- Visiting Cluj, Romania

While most of Transylvania is famous for astounding natural beauty, Cluj-Napoca is famous for nightlife.  In the Northeastern corner of Transylvania, known as Cluj to the locals, the city is one of the most visited in Romania.  After days of hiking or skiing in the Carpathians, relaxing at one of the many cafes or pubs offers a much needed vacation from your vacation.  The city is not only pubs and discos though, it also has great food and many cultural acivities.

During the day visit the Orthodox Cathedral and statue of Avram Iancu, St. Michael’s church and the Matthias Corvinus statue, and the memorial cross monument on Cetatuia Hill.  St. Michael’s dates to the 15th century and has some of the best murals in the region.  Its neo-gothic tower is newer, built in 1860, but still very impressive.  There are two palaces in the surrounding area:  the Banffy and Teleki Palaces, the second now housing the National Art Museum.  Union Square is also home to the world’s first Unitarian Church.

As with much of Transylvania, the key to unlocking the city is wandering through the many small streets winding out of the squares, where you will find beautiful old architecture, gates leading into well maintained courtyards, and cafes full of locals at all hours of the day.

Come nighttime is when the city really begins to shine.  It’s home to some of the best Romanian, Transylvanian, and even Hungarian food in the country.  You can find a meal of any style within any budget, but we recommend eating one of the many dishes you can only get in Romania, like ciorba de borta (tripe soup) or mititei (a sausage popular in the region).  There are ample options for traditional cuisine in the city.

After dinner prepare for a night on the town.  Thanks to the large number of university students there are clubs, bars, and discos to suit every style.  One of the chicest is Diesel, but Teahouse-club Crema and ultra-popular Obsession are also great options.  The most attractive part of life in the city is that it thrives on locals, not tourists, so you will feel a part of the community day and night.

There are hotels and guest houses in all budget ranges.  To plan your Cluj, Romania vacation, fill out a free travel request form now and Tripology travel agents expert in Transylvanian travel will help you not only with accommodations, but also in finding the cheapest flights to Romania and back home and car rentals for your journey through the Carpatian Mountains of Transylvania.
