Mauna Kea Stars tour

We were so very fortunate to go up on a clear night to the top of Mauna Kea where there  are 13 observatories located to view our outer space....above 40% of the earth's atmosphere so the air is super clear...

We used 'Mauna Kea Summit Adventures' and were very content with what was provided.  Other outfits has less appealing meals - and less comfortable parkas - snowsuits to wear.  The temperature can get down to the 30's due to altitude...

The sunset and the stargazing began about 3 in the afternoon with a ride up the mountain learning along the way.. as well as a few tidbits for laughter..We did make a stop for the International room - First you're Russian, then you're European and finally as you exit you're Finnish..

After that stop we continued up to the top - above the clouds to watch an incredible sunset. (13,796 feet)...we finished at the 9,500 foot elevation looking through telescopes at stars in the sky!  So many stars!!!

As a travel agent at www.sunnyhillstravel.com this was a chance in a lifetime - and I'm ready to offer advice and chat about our experience.

So clear we saw the lights of Hilo and the lava flowing way off at the volcano on our way back down the mountain....

Back down where we were picked up at ten pm.....
