Romance and luxury awaits in this Los Cabos resort

Marquis Los Cabos, an esteemed member of The Leading Hotels of the World, accurately describes itself as a ‘resort for all senses’. From its dramatic arched lobby and cascading waterfall framing the panoramic ocean views to the Bulgari amenities in every suite, this upscale resort is a sensory explosion.

This all-suite, all-oceanview resort is a tranquil oasis in the Hotel Corridor, equidistant from Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Three pools (two infinity and one under the waterfall, excluding the private plunge pools that grace each casita and Marquis Club suite) provide a backdrop for daytime and evening relaxation. Poolside service is impeccable, whether for tropical drinks served in the oceanside seats in the pools or for casual fare served while you lounge.

Several restaurants and bars assure you of cocktail and culinary satisfaction. Vista Ballenas restaurant features indoor and outdoor terrace seating. The outdoor seating is exciting by day to watch the whales cavorting in front of the resort (seasonal) and by night, offers romantic gourmet experiences—especially if seated near one of the many fire pits.

Canto del Mar, their signature restaurant, has for the third consecutive year been honored with 5 Diamond and 5 Star awards for innovative cuisine. A ‘must’ is the Chef’s tasting menu for a small, exclusive grouping in an intimate setting.

Marquis Los Cabos also has a cozy Cigar bar; choose a fine cigar from its diverse selection while enjoying a cognac or brandy. Wait staff also offer cigar selections poolside.

You’re not imagining the ‘flying fish’ you thought you saw. Manta rays, jumping for food and playfulness, dot this part of the coastline and are a delight to witness.

The spa is nothing short of fantastic. It is a serene sanctuary from daily cares and stimulates renewal and rejuvenation. The Mexica (sic) Ritual Spa is a perfect pre-treatment ritual to immerse you in their signature treatments. This spa features authentic Mexican spa therapies that are divine and reasonably priced. We always purchase some of their proprietary salts and essences to remind us of our Marquis Los Cabos spa experience once we return home.

The suites are elegant: fine linens adorn the beds, architectural features enhance the charm of Mexican décor, and the ubiquitous Mexican marble (rough and polished) is stunning. A comfortable lounging area with love seat and workable desk with plenty of outlets and data ports (just in case you have to work!) rounds out the living area. A balcony with table and chairs overlooking the ocean is perfect for a sunrise breakfast or sunset cocktails or whale-watching.

The bathroom is large with ample space for all your amenities, double-vanity ensures no crowding, and separate marbled shower and toilet areas are convenient. But the piece de resistance in every suite is the double jetted tub, replete with complimentary bath salts and candles. Texturally appealing wooden shutters separate the tub from the bed and lounging areas for intimacy. And for special occasions, ask for the rose petal-strewn bath!

There are also 28 individual casitas on property—oceanside—that include private plunge pools and rooftop terraces or private lounging hammock. These casitas are ideal for couples desiring additional romantic privacy or for a family reunion or gals’ getaway. The rooftop terrace is perfect for gatherings under the stars, by the sea.

One policy we really appreciate is the mandatory ‘resort fee’ in lieu of a la carte tipping. More equitable for the unseen staff who work hard behind-the-scenes to deliver an exceptional guest experience, this policy also relieves you of the awkwardness of constantly fumbling around in pocket or handbag for the ‘right’ tip.

There is a terrific Kids Camp for youngsters, but families looking for a raucous party atmosphere would be best served elsewhere. At Marquis los Cabos, peace reigns.

Marquis Los Cabos is perfect for romance, for relaxation, and for pampered rejuvenation, yet with close proximity to the liveliness of Cabo San Lucas or the quaintness of San Jose del Cabo. It is one of our favorite resorts in all of Mexico and always feels like ‘home’ when we return.
