Hotel Londra Palace--Affordable Luxury on Venice's Grand Canal

We arrived at Marco Polo airport after a late flight from Bari and opted for a water taxi into Venice. As we entered Venice’s lagoon, the white façade of Hotel Londra Palace gleamed a welcome.

This Small Luxury Hotel of the World is one of my favorite hotels in all of Italy, and I visit it regularly. I love it for its luxury, the attentive and warm service, and its incomparable location fronting the lagoon, Riva Deglia Schiavoni, Santa Maria della Salute, and mere steps (really!) from San Marco Piazza.

Fresh from a multimillion euro renovation, Londra Palace sports an updated look yet retains its Venetian flair. Silk tapestry wallcoverings, marbled bath, period antiques, and absolutely divine bed linens (real linen!) create restful and beautiful accommodations in the heart of Venice proper.

The Jacuzzi in our usual suite #502 was being repaired, so I was instead accommodated in 410, a double deluxe lagoon view room. I was not disappointed. An archway demarcated the sleeping from the living quarters. Floor to ceiling French windows, each with a balconcino, were breezily opened to the lagoon and bobbing gondoli beneath me. The weather was postcard-perfect—a balmy 60 degrees and sparkling sun reflecting on the water.

Included breakfast at Hotel Londra Palace is a hearty affair with meats, cheeses, fruits, cereals, breads, pastries, juices, and champagne. And caffe—always the caffe. Elisa enthusiastically welcomed me back and even complimented me on my new glasses—what a memory! Stefania at the Front Desk ensured that my special soymilk had been pre-ordered for me, and Alviso asked about my daughter. I reminded Alessandra that I had clients arriving soon, and without hesitation, nodded her head, ‘si, celebrating anniversary’ and promised to take extra special care of them.

It’s those kinds of personal touches that really set Londra Palace apart. You’re not just staying at a lovely hotel; you are welcomed to Venice as part of its family.

Contact me to design an incredible Venice stay; besides my favorite Venezia hotels, I can introduce you to Olivo whose Murano merchandise is high quality and priced right (I am always complimented on my Murano jewelry and glassware that I’ve bought from Olivo at bargain prices), to my favorite Italian yarn shops, and to the little shop specializing in unusual pasta and spices.
