Just got back from leading a group to Paris. I had a few extra days after the tour, so I stayed in Paris on my own.
Luckily, my favorite hotel, the Duminy-Vendome, was available and I stayed there.
If, as they say, location is everything; then the Duminy-Vendome is the place! Located on a quite side street just one block from the Tuilleries Gardens and the rue de Rivoli, the hotel is about 3 blocks from the Louvre and about 5 blocks from the Musee d'Orsay. There is a metro (subway) stop just one block away. The famous and elegant Place Vendome is a mere 2 blocks away.
The 3-star hotel itself is a historic building, having been built as a convent. The hotel is small (only 78 rooms). It has a bar, next to the Reception; and a Breakfast Room located in a 'cave' (basement) which is very typical of these kinds of hotels in Paris.
Most of the rooms are standard size for Paris, meaning they are smaller than most Americans are used to. There are 20 so-called 'Privilege' rooms that are larger and can accommodate families. If you are looking to stretch-out, be sure to book a 'Privilege' room. All rooms are tastefully and confortably furnished.
The breakfast buffet is large and offers all the normal items.
If you want to be near the action, yet have a quiet place to stay, then you can't do better than the Duminy-Vendome.
The hotel rates range from $264 a night for a single up to $545 a night for a double, including breakfast and taxes.
You can book the hotel through Euro Villas Ltd (www.eurovillasltd.com). The hotel's website is www.hotelduminyvendome.com
